What is listeria ?

Listeria is a bacterial genus which can be found in soil, stream water, sewage and animals. From soil it can lead to vegetable contamination.

Listeria can be found in uncooked meats and uncooked vegetables.
It can also be found in fruit, milk and processed foods.

Pasteurization kill Listeria but contamination may occur after cooking.

Listeria are responsible for listeriosis.

Listeria contains seven species

L. grayi
L. innocua
L. ivanovii
L. monocytogenes
L. seeligeri
L. murrayi
L. welshimeri
